Providers
PERSONAL NOTE FROM DR. FREEMAN:
I understand many with chronic illness and who are in pain do not feel 'heard' or believed by their providers, by family or by friends. As part of my practice, I often help patients communicate more effectively with their providers and with others in their lives. This is one of the reasons patients are seen by physician referral. Information that you feel is important can be transmitted to your provider from Mind Matters, with written permission from you. I also often hold sessions with patients and other family members to support greater understanding and to ease stressful relations caused by your illness and/or pain.
Lyn Freeman, Ph.D., LPC
Dr. Freeman works diligently with patients to improve their quality of life and medical outcomes by targeting reductions in both physical and emotional pain. She developed systematic protocols based on findings from her clinical research and from her years of experience. These protocols are provided to patients in a manner that is easy to absorb and put into practice based on their interests, energy, and ability to focus. The protocols include the Brain and Pain Reduction Protocol. This protocol evolved from her clinical research. The Circadian Rhythm and Sleep Protocol helps with restful recovery from pain and anxiety. The Anxiety Protocol provides the skills to identify and break the cycle of ruminations, worry and fear that take away the ability to enjoy what is good in life, even as you face ongoing challenges. Dr. Freeman is also certified in Behavioral Nutrition, that helps you implement healthy eating behaviors based on the orders of your physician or nutritionist. The Critical Thinking Problem Solving Protocol has proven to be a favorite with patients, who must make important decisions concerning stressful events in their lives when they feel overwhelmed from their medical condition. Dr. Freeman also offers training in simple biofeedback devices that can be used at home, to give information related to stress reduction and mood enhancement. She can also test your responsiveness with an Alpha Stim device that has been clinically tested and proven to reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and reduce the perception of physical pain. Based on your response, this device can be prescribed for home use. These and other protocols (see the Intervention Protocols page) can significantly improve the quality of life in patients with medical conditions. Dr. Freeman is also trained in several forms of therapy, including DBT, (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) CBT, (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) MI (Motivational Interviewing), and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). What form is used is based on what is the best 'fit' for the individual. Dr. Freeman has delivered these protocols and forms of therapy in both in-patient and out-patient settings and understands the complexity of dealing with the combination of medical and mood state challenges.
